What to prepare for you wedding or elopement detail photos
Ah yes. The perfect set of detailed shots get the heart all a flutter, don’t they? They are the perfect way to round out all the candid photos from the ceremony and reception, and add so much texture and art into all the formal photos with loved ones and your wedding party. All without taking away from the beauty of you both on your wedding day.
But what do you include? What all do you have to provide for your photographer to really make your detail photos drool worthy? Love, keep reading because I’ve got you.
At the end of it all, and before you start building unnecessary anxiety - these can be as simple or complicated as you like. Here is a side by side of two photos: consider which you are more drawn to. The good news? It is likely that if you love a heavily loaded photo you already have an ample amount of items, and if you prefer a minimalist approach the same applies!
Consider
What is important to you that your photographer wouldn't inherently know? Do you have a photograph of a passed loved one that you would like to incorporate, or a sentimental item from your ancestors like a hair pin or watch that you will be wearing? These items might seem random, but having them set aside and ready for photos will be something you are always grateful for once you get your wedding day photos back.
Have your rings cleaned about a week before your big day for that extra sparkle in the ring closeups
Collect
Next is to gather all your items together in one place, such as a shoe box. This will relieve stress the night before, and eradicate any sheer shots of panic on the day of when you think you’ve left something at your house 45 minutes away. The other pro here is that your photographer won’t have to be digging for these items and maybe missing out on one or two!
Here is a quick list of easy items you can include:
Cuts of ribbon in your wedding colors (a quick search for ‘peace silk ribbon’ on Etsy will get you dozens of options)
Any jewelry you will be wearing (including and especially rings)
Any other accessories such as shoes, hats, etc
A well kept copy of your save-the-dates, invites, or paper goods
A ring box (if you haven’t got one custom made consider buying one in a color complementary to your wedding theme, my personal favorite is The Mrs Box)
One of your wedding guest favors
Any letters, love notes or gifts you have or will be giving each other
An extra flower or two from your florist
I’ll leave you with a gentle reminder - there is no wrong answer here! Include as much or as little of anything into your detail shots that you’d like. When you look back at your wedding photos you want to feel like they are an authentic and accurate representation of you, your love, and your story!
